John W. Burkett

Biography

John Burkett planted the Writing Center at Southeastern toward developing a culture of critical thinking and writing to better serve and glorify Jesus Christ (Rom. 11:36). John teaches a number of English courses: Composition (ENG1110), Research Writing (ENG1120), Creative Writing (ENG 3600), John Milton (ENG3620), C. S. Lewis (ENG3630), and Advanced Writing through Augustine’s Confessions (ENG3590/GEN5590). He has studied business communication (BS), biblical literature (MA), English literature (MA), and composition and rhetoric (PhD), composing a non-Platonic commentary on Aristotle’s Art of Rhetoric. John served in the U.S. Army, mostly overseas, when he was converted to God through his Son while reading the Holy Scriptures. John has enjoyed teaching college and graduate-level writers since 2003 and at Southeastern since 2009.
