Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary strives to provide and promote a safe and welcoming environment for the campus community where misconduct in all forms is prohibited and recognized as unacceptable. Southeastern does not tolerate acts of sexual harassment, interpersonal violence, sexual misconduct, or sex/gender-based discrimination. All members of our community are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects Southeastern’s values, personal integrity, and a respect for others.

The goal of campus life at Southeastern is to live, work, serve, and worship together as an educational community centered around the Lord Jesus Christ. Along with the privileges and blessings of membership in such a community come responsibilities. The members of the Southeastern campus community take these responsibilities seriously

One of these responsibilities is to establish and maintain a safe and healthy social environment for all members of the community that honors the Lord Jesus Christ and God’s vision for human sexuality. God’s vision for sexuality affirms the dignity and purity of all persons. Sexual harassment and assault are behaviors outside of God’s vision for human sexuality that cause pain and suffering. They are also unacceptable behaviors that grieve God’s heart and members of the Southeastern community.

SEBTS does not discriminate on the basis of sex and prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity that it operates, as required by Title IX and its regulations, including in admission and employment, except where discrimination is based on religious exemption allowed by the Department of Education.

Inquiries about Title IX may be referred to SEBTS’ Title IX Coordinator, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, or both. To report information about conduct that may constitute sex discrimination or make a complaint of sex discrimination under Title IX, please refer to the above links or contact information.

The institution’s Title IX Coordinator oversees implementing and monitoring Title IX compliance with all aspects of the policies (including harassment and/or discrimination on the basis of sex or gender) under the requirements of Title IX. Questions about the policies or the institution’s response should be directed to the Title IX Coordinator.

In the event that an incident involves alleged misconduct by the Title IX Coordinator, reports should be made directly to the Director of Human Resources.

SEBTS Title IX
Anonymous reporting is always an option under Title IX. SEBTS will not contact you if you are an anonymous reporter because SEBTS will have no information about who made the report and how to contact them. Although SEBTS encourages anonymous reporting over not reporting, understand that the less information SEBTS has, the more difficult it is for SEBTS to take action in remedying an incident of sexual misconduct or sexual harassment.

Reports that are made anonymously or by third parties may not initiate the formal complaint process. However, Title IX requires SEBTS to investigate all incidents about which SEBTS knows or has reason to know in order to protect the health and safety of the school community. SEBTS may undertake an initial assessment even in cases where the alleged victim and/or complainant choose not to cooperate or participate.As necessary, SEBTS reserves the right to initiate a complaint, to serve as complainant, and to initiate conduct proceedings without a formal complaint by the victim or complainant. Please understand: if the reporter provides limited information anonymously, SEBTS may be limited in its ability to take action.
